The advantages of photovoltaics for corporate sustainability

The implementation of renewable energy sources has become an essential component for companies, especially in a transition context such as the one we are experiencing today. For this reason, the use of photovoltaics represents a crucial opportunity for companies aiming for a sustainable future, efficient energy management and a reduction in energy bill costs.

Reducing energy costs and increasing business competitiveness

Choosing photovoltaics means benefiting from a wide range of opportunities, from reduction of long-term energy costs, while improving your competitiveness on the market.

  • For example, consider a manufacturing company that traditionally relies on the national grid to meet its energy needs. By installing a photovoltaic system on the roof of its factory, this company can move from a traditional energy model to a more sustainable and cost-effective one.
  • Another example is a textile company that invested in a photovoltaic system for its production lines. Before installing the photovoltaic system, the company relied on electricity from the national grid, which resulted in periodic increases in electricity costs. By implementing photovoltaics, the company has drastically reduced its dependence on traditional energy sources and has enjoyed significant savings on its energy bill.
  • Another example is a farm that uses electrified irrigation systems to cultivate its land. Before adopting photovoltaics, this farm had to pay considerable costs for the electricity needed to operate its irrigation systems. However, by installing photovoltaic modules on the roofs of its warehouses, the farm has eliminated its dependence on the electricity grid and has benefited from a significant reduction in operating costs.

Reducing carbon emissions

Installing a photovoltaic system, however, not only leads to a reduction in energy costs, but also represents an effective solution for reducing CO2 emissions, thus contributing to the fight against climate change and the advancement of the energy transition.

Photovoltaic energy is a clean and renewable source that does not produce harmful emissions during the energy generation process. Unlike traditional energy sources, such as oil or coal, photovoltaics do not release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, thus helping to reduce the impact of human activity on the global climate. This means that companies that opt for photovoltaics directly reduce their carbon emissions, playing an active role in protecting the environment

Incentives and tax breaks to support renewables

In the current energy landscape, incentives play a fundamental role in promoting the widespread adoption of photovoltaic solar energy. Also for 2024, as we have also explained in this article, there are numerous incentive programs for companies that wish to invest in this form of clean and sustainable energy

Among these, incentives are one of the main tools used to finance the adoption of photovoltaic energy. These subsidies can be offered in the form of direct grants, financial contributions or tax breaks for companies investing in photovoltaic systems.

Special Zone, 1.8 Billion Incentives Unlocked

On May 20, 2024, Giorgetti signed the implementing decree for tax credits. This unlocked the tax credit for companies investing in the single Special Economic Zone (ZES) of Southern Italy. An intervention of 1.8 billion euros, translated into incentives of up to 60% for companies.

A tax credit open to all companies, regardless of legal form and accounting regime, already operating or establishing themselves in the single ZES, for initial investments, between 200thousand euros and 100million, as defined by EU Regulation 651/201.

The purchase or leasing of machinery, systems and equipment intended for new structures is facilitated. The purchase of land and the acquisition, construction or expansion of instrumental properties are also permitted, but within 50% of the overall value of the subsidized investment. Geographical perimeter: assisted areas of the regions of Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily and those of the Abruzzo region identified by the Regional Aid Map 2022-2027.

Towards a more sustainable company

The adoption of photovoltaics not only brings tangible and financial benefits, but can also be useful in the communication field. Being more sustainable means being able to improve your image and the reputation of the company, both in the perception of customers and employees and the community in general. Demonstrating a tangible commitment to environmental sustainability can increase consumer trust, attract qualified talent and strengthen relationships with stakeholders.

Conclusions

In addition to reducing energy costs and decreasing carbon emissions, adopting photovoltaics can improve energy independence, generate long-term savings and strengthen the corporate image.
