What are the incentives for photovoltaics for industrial warehouses

Italy possesses a vast expanse of commercial rooftops. Just considering commercial establishments and industrial warehouses, an area of 300 square kilometers is estimated. These areas, according to research conducted by Cerved, could host up to 30 GW of new photovoltaic installations larger than 200 kW, a significant potential that could contribute to the ecological transition of the country and mitigate energy costs for businesses. Using satellite data and imaging technologies, the company has identified and located properties and production sites with an area of at least 2,000 square meters, suitable for the installation of plants of around 200 kW, making them interesting for sector investors. This work has led to the identification of approximately 110,000 eligible companies for the installation of photovoltaic systems, which could contribute with over 30 GW of power, more than half of what is needed to achieve Italian goals by 2030. Perhaps among these is also your industrial warehouse.

The advantages of a photovoltaic system for industrial warehouses

In a previous article, we discussed some of the main advantages of a photovoltaic system for industrial warehouses. Indeed, there are numerous advantages to consider when deciding to invest in industrial photovoltaics. From reducing energy costs to creating a sustainable corporate image, including tax incentives, these solutions can transform the way industries and companies produce and consume energy.

Through the installation of a photovoltaic system, it is possible to access numerous state incentives and deductions that allow for the amortization of the initial investment. Not to mention the numerous forms of incentives resulting from participation in calls for proposals with non-repayable contributions issued in conjunction with the disbursement of PNRR funds.

The incentives for industrial warehouses to pay attention to

Also this year, companies that decide to embark on an energy transition path through the installation of photovoltaic systems will be able to benefit from incentives and facilitations.

Indeed, there are numerous incentives that companies can benefit from for the installation of photovoltaic systems. An opportunity not to be overlooked, as it is synonymous with increasing the strategic potential of the company, from multiple points of view. From financial support in the initial phase of design and implementation of photovoltaic systems, to immediate relief on energy costs for businesses. The incentives available in 2024 include tax breaks, tax credits, and specific subsidies for companies choosing to invest in renewable technologies. These incentives make investment in photovoltaics not only sustainable but also economically advantageous. The national incentives available for corporate installations are numerous, including (by way of example and not exhaustive) the FER Decree and the Tax Credit (R&D), the New Sabatini 2024, and the Reverse Charge. Not to mention the PNRR incentives (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), such as the Agrisolare Park, specific for companies in the agricultural, livestock, and agro-industrial sectors, which allows access to a non-repayable contribution of up to 80%. Also, the Renewable Energy Communities (CER), a group of citizens, SMEs, territorial entities, and local authorities who share renewable electricity produced by plants owned by one or more subjects of the community in order to promote a more collaborative and sustainable energy model.

Photovoltaic incentives for industrial warehouses: Focus on Transition Plan 5.0

The ongoing transformation path aims to move from a linear development model based on fossil fuels to a circular paradigm focused on renewable sources. In perfect harmony with this orientation, within the Official Gazette of March 2, the decree-law 39 containing urgent provisions for the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan was published. Within the measure, at article 38, we find the Transition Plan 5.0.

The Plan encourages the digital and green transition of Italian companies, granting tax credits to Italian companies that, during 2024 and 2025, carry out restructuring and innovation interventions. A must-have requirement is the achievement of energy consumption reduction resulting from the interventions covered by the credit. Indeed, there are increases in the recognition of the credit if the energy savings resulting from the interventions exceed the minimum percentages required. Among the eligible works, particular emphasis is placed on investments in assets aimed at self-production of energy from renewable sources destined for self-consumption. The Transition Plan 5.0 provides resources amounting to 6.3 billion euros, in addition to the 6.4 billion already provided for by the budget law, for a total of approximately 13 billion in the biennium 2024-2025. The Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, stated: “Transition Plan 5.0 is the cornerstone of our industrial policy, to allow our companies to innovate to win the challenge of the dual digital and green transition, in the decisive years 2024/2025, when geoeconomic assets are being redrawn. In addition to investments in instrumental assets, the measure is also aimed at training workers, because skills are the factor that makes the difference especially for our Made in Italy.”
