Southwind: the power of the wind

Since 2008, there has been a division in Southenergy known as Southwind dedicated to wind power. Our mission is to offer the best technological solutions in order to ensure maximum reliability on all wind power plants built and to develop supervision and control systems capable of meeting the needs of our investors by enabling constant monitoring and diagnostics.

Every day, our plants produce energy without harmful emissions while contributing to the protection of the environment, consistent with our company’s founding values of “enhancing the resources of our homeland: the sun and the wind.”

Southwind is involved in a number of activities, including:

  • Wind turbine regeneration
  • Monitoring and Control Systems for wind power plants
  • The replacement of wind turbines;
  • Management of plant adjustments and administrative procedures with the relevant agencies: GSE spa, Customs agencies, E-Distribuzione, The ARERA authority.

Wind power: 30% more power in Italy by 2021

Wind power generation in Italy saw a significant increase in 2022, with 526 MW of new wind power installed across approximately 208 new plants. By the end of the year, Italy’s cumulative wind power capacity had reached 11,848 MW, excluding divestments. This represents a remarkable 30.2% increase compared to 2021 when 404 MW of new capacity was added.

Regional distribution demonstrates Puglia to be the top producer of wind energy in Italy, boasting 2,996 MW of installed capacity. Other Southern Italian and Island regions, including Sicily, Campania, Basilicata, and Calabria, also feature prominently among the top five.

This data underscores the significant potential of wind energy as a technologically mature and environmentally friendly power source. It reflects nature’s capability to generate power through wind, further emphasising its importance in the renewable energy landscape.

At Southenergy, we are committed to creating energy solutions for our investors, exemplified by our 500 kW turbine located in Brindisi. This vision stems from our determination to leverage decades of expertise in the wind power sector, enriching local communities and fulfilling our promise of sustainable development.
